A long, long time ago in microseconds, in a galaxy not very far away...

                   5.23 Episode VII
                   THE FUZZ AWAKENS

                  It is a period of
                unrest as separatists
               announce their intentions
to fork PERL and return the
             galaxy to speed and stability.

            Chancellor Rik Hoolian struggles
to hold together the remains of the
once mighty Republic against a tide of
incivility and the depredations of a new
       foe, the FUZZ RAIDERS.

Meanwhile, after 15 years of preparation and
high expectations, Supreme Leader Toady prepares
to unleash a devastating new weapon, PERL SIXDOTOH,
that could splinter the Republic forever and usher in
a new Empire of gradual typing....

We are jazzed to announce version 23.6, the 7th development release of
version 23 of Perl 5.

You will soon be able to download Perl 5.23.6 from your favorite CPAN
mirror or find it at:

https://metacpan.org/release/DAGOLDEN/perl-5.23.6/

SHA1 digests for this release are:

  4d5c757bec7c34e40146bb8ff915afe7 perl-5.23.6.tar.gz
  4b65dbefd8b0b02f226a63bd40204e5e perl-5.23.6.tar.bz2
  772bb3a4357b10c6fae376d5d7c85ca6 perl-5.23.6.tar.xz

You can find a full list of changes in the file "perldelta.pod" located in
the "pod" directory inside the release and on the web at

https://metacpan.org/pod/release/DAGOLDEN/perl-5.23.6/pod/perldelta.pod

Perl 5.23.6 represents approximately 4 weeks of development since Perl
5.23.5 and contains approximately 11,000 lines of changes across 260 files
from 22 authors.

Excluding auto-generated files, documentation and release tools, there were
approximately 7,500 lines of changes to 170 .pm, .t, .c and .h files.

Perl continues to flourish into its third decade thanks to a vibrant
community of users and developers. The following people are known to have
contributed the improvements that became Perl 5.23.6:

Aaron Crane, Abigail, Achim Gratz, Andy Broad, Aristotle Pagaltzis, Chris
'BinGOs' Williams, Craig A. Berry, Dagfinn Ilmari Mannsåker, Daniel Dragan,
David Golden, David Mitchell, Doug Bell, Ed Avis, Jarkko Hietaniemi, Karen
Etheridge, Karl Williamson, Lukas Mai, Ricardo Signes, Shlomi Fish, Steve
Hay, Sullivan Beck, Tony Cook.

The list above is almost certainly incomplete as it is automatically
generated from version control history. In particular, it does not include
the names of the (very much appreciated) contributors who reported issues
to the Perl bug tracker.

Many of the changes included in this version originated in the CPAN modules
included in Perl's core. We're grateful to the entire CPAN community for
helping Perl to flourish.

For a more complete list of all of Perl's historical contributors, please
see the AUTHORS file in the Perl source distribution.

We expect to release version 23.7 on January 20, 2016. The next major
stable release of Perl 5, version 24.0, should appear in May 2016.

Sincerely,
David Golden
