Several people have suggested that some of the questions about RT 127810 could be answered if we had a way to make a feature branch (normally called a smoke-me branch?). However as I understand things, a smoke-me branch is more about testing how perl builds on multiple architectures. Not how code outside of perl runs against that perl.
What we really want is a way to generate a perl build with a set of experimental patches and then try to build and install every CPAN module. It is my understanding that no generally available infrastructure like this exists.
I know over the years, some work has been done to pre-test certain perl builds against CPAN to see how it succeeds. Assuming this is true, can anyone tell me more about how this was done? If it was done, was it somehow reported to CPAN testers? Would they want the data collected?
I'm bringing this up as a separate thread because I think it would be generally useful for various pending changes. For instance, certain changes pending with a CVE might come out more stable if we had the ability to test them prior to release.
