I think this is not a big worry: they either stuck their support on that 5.8.x
version or maybe repeat the path of perl-kurila: go to valhalla.

Either way, this will be unvisible fork for the Perl community

There is another approach from their, which is quite unlikely: they could
start spending their efforts and resources on improving EBCDIC on perl,
but I very much doubt so.
